Gun Range Rules

Welcome to Central Kentucky Gun & Range rules webpage. Please watch the video below and read our range rules. The first time you visit Central Kentucky Gun & Range, you will need to complete a waiver.

Central Kentucky Gun Range Rules

  • Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

  • Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

  • Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

  • Hearing and eye protection is MANDATORY and must be worn at all times while on the range.

  • Never shoot above the red line.

  • No headshots on targets within 10 yards.

  • Only ONE shooter is allowed in the shooting stalls unless an adult is accompanying a youth.

  • An adult is mandatory with a youth shooter if the shooter is under the age of 21.

  • The use of alcohol and tobacco on Range premises is strictly prohibited.

  • While shooting, only use the correct ammunition for the gun.

  • Steel core ammunition, armor piercing, tracers, and any other ammunition that is not approved by Central Kentucky Gun and Range are strictly prohibited. Use of this ammunition will result in disciplinary action.

  • All ammunition brought into the range by shooters will be checked by an associate of Central Kentucky Gun & Range.

  • Please be familiar with range rules. All range rules are listed in our Standard Operating Procedures and are available for public review.

  • Anyone on the range can call a cease fire.

  • In the event a cease fire is called, shooters are to immediately stop shooting, lay their guns on the shooting bench, and step behind the ready line. The ready line will be marked in yellow.

  • Anyone, not shooting must stay behind the ready line.

  • NO shooters are to go forward the firing line at any time.

  • Shooters are not allowed to bend over to retrieve any item on the floor while on the firing line.

  • No rifle caliber above a 30-06, or a 44 magnum centerfire rifle round.

  • In the event, a shooter’s firearm misfires, jams, or malfunctions and the shooter cannot correct the error. They may ask for assistance from an RSO (Range Safety Officer) on duty.

  • NO live ammo is to be loaded in any firearms that are going into or coming out of the range. NO exceptions.

  • All firearms coming or leaving the range must be transported in a range bag or case. NO exceptions.

  • NO firing from the hip or holster draw.

  • In the event of an emergency, an individual may be called upon to assist the RSO (RangeSafety Officer) on duty.

  • Disciplinary action taken by an RSO can be challenged but must be brought to the attention of the Chief Safety Range Officer on duty.

  • Shooters are in charge of keeping up with their own property, any loss or theft is not the responsibility of Central Kentucky Gun and Range.

  • Range commands given by an RSO (Range Safety Officer) must be obeyed at all times by shooters.

  • A woman who is pregnant is not allowed to shoot on the range due to lead exposure.

  • Please bring any medical conditions or disabilities to the attention of an RSO (Range Safety Officer) on duty, so that you may be assisted to shoot safely.

  • No food or drink on the range.

  • Chief Range Officer on duty has final say in all situations on the range, disciplinary or otherwise.
